Soccer Report for Preseason

Planets taking the mandatory preseason beep test

Jan. 31, 2014
LIGI NDOGO, Ngong’ Rd. – LIGI NDOGO Planets soccer was the fourth best team in the 2013 Division One Zone A group 1.The team was back on the 13th for preseason practice, assembling on ground  for the opening of its annual training camp Monday morning.
Bernard Ndichu served as caretaker from 2nd September to 9th November 2013 and put together a solid 7-2-1 record after the departure Michael Kamure.Coach Kamure had an overall record of 49-30-15 in three years at the club (52.13%).
The team welcomes back ten starters from last season's side, including the team leaders in goals (John Njoroge, 12), assist (Samuel Machio, 18), Most appearances (Brian Kimechwa, 47) as well as most-minutes played (Phillip Mbaeme, 3060).
Central defender Arthur Weyula graduates to the premier league and will turn out for promoted Top Fry Allstars.Leonard Ochieng and Edgar Omollo will feature for provincial side, Kibera All Stars on waiver and loan respectively.
Five year veteran Samuel Machio was selected as team captain and served in that capacity throughout the 2013 season.
The team put together a 12-5-5 record, highlighted by a five match win streak in November over K.R.A, (1 during that period),Mahakama (5) and Bidco United (2) to sprint from sixth to fourth and qualify for Super league soccer .Striker Thomas Lugera is expected back to the roster after going on loan to Coast United Mikhail Mwaniki, the longest serving member of the academy is expected to return to the active roster after sitting out most of the 2013 season due to personal matters.
Seven transfers are expected to join the Planet program this season. Among them is Kibera Celtic centre, Isaac Omari a replacement for Weyula ,three midfielders, two forwards and  and a goalkeeper. Most notable will be former Planet keeper, Charles Ouma who is back from premier side Muhoroni Youth after a one year hiatus.
In keeping with tradition, three players will be promoted from the lower Ligi Ndogo teams.Right back Brian Ochieng (23) will be promoted from the Foundation team while midfielders Kibet Kilele (17),Kamaru Waiyaki (17) and Sheikh Remy (15) will be promoted from the Ligi Ndogo under 17 side that featured in the Keele cup,UK over the past five years.
A major part of the Planets’ title quest this season will depend on the consistency of their back four, a constantly improving unit that conceded only 7 goals in the second half of the season compared to 15 in the first leg.
The team will play its home games at its Ngong Rd centre where it played its last five matches in season 2013 and went 4-1..

Tanzania: Kenya Shines in Youth Chipukizi Soccer Cup

Arusha — KENYA'S 'Ligi Ndogo Academy teams' have emerged the winner of 'Chipukizi Cup' having topped the 'Under 10' and 'Under 12' categories of the Regional youth soccer tournament.
Played at the International School of Moshi (Arusha Campus) grounds, in Kisongo the final matches in the regional football competition also saw Uganda's 'Field Dreams' winning the 'Under 14' league in the event which attracted more than 300 young players from Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.
The 'Alliance Academy' team from Mwanza, managed to save Tanzania's grace through finally scooping the Under-16 title in the younger category, while Arusha's 'Future Stars Academy' topped the much older group of 'Under 18.'
The East African Chipukizi Cup was organized and hosted by Arusha's 'Future Stars Academy' with the tournament being staged at ISM grounds, Meru Secondary grounds, Burka and TGT fields of Arusha.
Participating teams included seven in the under 10 category, seven more for the under 12 grouping, five teams in the Under 14 level, while Under 16 attracted four teams and Under 18 six teams.
Many of the participating teams, however, failed to make it into the finals with the Arusha District Soccer Association Chairman, Zakayo Mjema urging the players to maintain competing spirit if they are to become major players in future.
The Director of 'Future Stars' Alfred Itaeli and the team's Coach Thomas Likanga whose club hosted the competition said the aim of the 'Chipukizi Cup' was to groom young players from the region in addition to cultivating good neighbourhood relations through sports.
It was the fourth installment of the 'Chipukizi Cup' taking place in Arusha. Kenya was represented by two 'Ligi Ndogo academy teams' and 'Kabete United,' while Uganda featured 'Nsambya Academy,' 'Soccer League' and 'Field of Dreams.'
Tanzania fielded 'Future stars,' 'Yosso united,' 'Mambas Sports club,' 'Stars sport club,' 'Small Nyota' and 'Lengo united,' as well as the 'Alliance academy sports club.'

December Holiday Program

Are you wondering how to keep your kids aged 14 and below happy and healthy this festive season?
Think no more. Here is the answer .Enroll your youngsters in our Ligi Ndogo Holiday Soccer Program. This is our last of the three holiday package that comes in April, August and December.
Soccer is a great sport for boys and girls of all athletic abilities. Engaging in soccer at our center in Ngong’ Rd will help your children develop leadership and teamwork skills as well as promote healthy active lifestyle for the whole family.

The costs of enrolling your child in our Holiday Soccer Program are friendly. Uniforms, shirts and shorts are included in the payment plan. Note that we depend on volunteer coaches’ help to keep our prices low.

We accept enrollment towards the end of the season that is from now to 20th of December. Our practice sessions began on Monday 18th.

If you pay for the team uniform please estimate your child's size at the time of enrollment to allow us to order sufficient numbers of correct sizes. The Holiday Soccer Program is scheduled for 20 days.
All ages practice from Monday to Friday,9:30am to 12:30pm

Players will learn to work together and support each other during drills and games. During drills your child may be asked to play different positions and will thus discover the skills and responsibilities needed throughout the team. Through the experience of practicing and playing with others your child will learn the importance of working with team toward common goal.
Coaches ask for cooperation between players competing during game. All players greet each other before games and congratulate each other after games and also assist coaches in preparing for and cleaning up after each game.
Although each parent is responsible for making sure their child has transportation to and from games and shows up in uniform ready to play please be willing to pitch in and help other parents and volunteers as needed with rides an extra water bottle providing snacks for the team and so forth. Our teams may be competing against each other but as individuals we need to work together to make sure everyone has fun.
Coaches
Outside of the players the coaches are the most important people on the team. The coaches are the people who will guide and train your children and shape their attitudes toward sports. At the end of the session they will provide analysis and short evaluations on the players. Please befriend them and get to know them better. We encourage all the parents to know a short background to the coaches: Their qualifications, how they will coach your youngsters, etc
Parents of participating children must meet the following requirements:
Must guarantee transport of participating children to practice sessions.
You must ensure that your child arrives on time for practice sessions and games. You can make arrangements with other parents or babysitters to transport your child but it is your responsibility to get your child to and from all practice sessions and games. We will expect your child to participate in all practice sessions and games.
In the case of emergencies or illness you must contact the coaching staff so that we can ensure we have full team available for the next session. Must provide all required uniforms and equipment for participating children.

Leadership
To practice leadership players will be assigned contained leadership duties on rotating basis being asked to be in charge of tasks such as counting players, making sure all players complete drill, selecting another player for position, collecting or arranging equipment or demonstrating to others how task should be performed.

Values
Our core values of leadership are as follows: Leadership should be demonstrated by example. Each individual should be ethically helpful and polite at all times. Leaders support the entire team. Leaders are not stars to be admired; leaders are individuals who share what they know and encourage others to grow. Leaders are modest and friendly. Leaders should not boast about their skills or their team's superiority over another team. While good natured rivalry is fine we never encourage bad mouthing bullying or teasing other players or other teams.

We are Always a Part of You. Come be a Part of Us!

About Ligi Ndogo and Season 36 dates

Ligi Ndogo is designed as a soccer league with regular matches and training sessions to build a closer understanding between the instructor and the child resulting in the child learning more than just sporting skills.
Aspects such as discipline, team spirit, leadership and responsibility are incorporated resulting in a well-horned individual at the end of the day. Our program is divided into three seasons each calendar year (JAN-APR), (MAY-AUG), (SEP-DEC). A typical Ligi Ndogo season lasts 10-12 weeks. The inaugural season commenced February 2002 (season1). We are currently in season 35 which started on 19th of May and ends August 3rd.
Season 36 starts on Saturday 21st September and ends 7 November 2013.
Intake
Upon registration players are placed in teams which are categorized basing on age and ability. Atoms (4-6 years), Juniors (7 & 8 years), Lower Mids (9 & 10), Upper Mids (11-12 years), U14, U16, U19 and seniors (over 19).
The Atom,Junior and Mid categories are further divided into teams which train twice a week on Friday (4:30p.m-6:20p.m) and Saturday (9.30 to 10.30).They play their league matches every Saturday from 11am to 12.30pm.
The other categories (U14, U16,U19 and senior) participate in the Left Foot league,FKF County league and FKF Division One league.
Practice for the under U14,U16 is every Saturday and Sunday,2.00-4.30 in the afternoon.Special categories (U19 and Senior teams) practice depending on the tournament and league calendar. The workout is laid down by the coach.

What is Required
The player is required to be at practice by 9.30am.At admission the player should have plastic studded playing shoes, games kit, water bottle and a snack. He proceeds to fill in an admission form with payments.
 Progress and Promotion
One's progress depends on their performance and there are cases whereby junior players have graduated to the senior teams even before attaining the required age.
No senior player is allowed to play for an underage team.

Note All the players are clothed in the Ligi Ndogo primary colors, that is, tangerine and cobalt. During play time, players are differentiated by different bib colors.
Duration of Play
A typical mid and upper mid game lasts 25 minutes per half while the junior games last 20 minutes per half. Prior to the games, each team has a training session once a week during the week. A team will play a maximum of one league game per weekend though impromptu friendly matches between the different league teams sometimes take place and act as build-ups.
Coaching Staff
The coaches are paid semi-professionals. Apart from coaching they take keen note of a player's conduct and progress. They are encouraged to liaise with parents for the best progress of the player both on and off the pitch.

Physical fitness and basic football technique is given priority during the training sessions to enable an enjoyable and injury free game for the player. The coaches also strive to give equal playing time to all the players in the team for the duration of the season. This enhances team spirit and also has the added advantage of boosting the confidence of players who might have felt that they are not upto par. The parents sometimes get involved in the officiating as linesmen, giving out handy tips at half time and generally encouraging there favorite teams.
Organization
Currently there are 20 semi professional coaches working at Ligi Ndogo. They are organized by the league manager who oversees coaching activities. The coaches also undergo training and refresher courses at the end of every season, thrice a year as part of our drive toward capacity building. Before being confirmed as coaches for the next year, Ligi Ndogo coaches undergo theory and practical aptitude tests to ensure they continuously improve their skills.

A reward for outstanding play during the season is a call up to the prestigious Planets and Academy sides. In April Ligi Ndogo participates in the Junior League in Uganda and the Keele cup in the United Kingdom in July.Ligi Ndogo recently added the PlussbankCup,the second biggest tournament in Norway, to its list of outings.Tanzania Chipkizi Futures closes the calendar in December.
