Planets away to Green Berets

The Planets are three and a half games adrift of league leaders Kariobangi Sharks but have a chance to cut that to only one and a half matches as they go into this weekend’s double header against Green Berets and Gatundu Stars.
The Planets are looking at this as a pointer to fortunes. They went beyond three goals for the first time this season, beating Karen’s Iron Strikers 3-2.The last time they scored more than three goals was when they beat KSL Thola Glass 4-1 at home on 1st October last year.
The win was made more significant as they were on the road to a team that had run a four game winning streak in four weeks.

About Green Berets
Berets are currently placed 16th in the table standings with 15 points from 13 matches. They topped over
Gatundu Stars,Sparki Youth,Coast United,Moyas and Kibera Celtic to win last year’s Nationwide D2 league. All six teams gained incorporation into the current FKF D1 league by merit.

Berets scored an incredible 2.6 goals per game and almost clocked triple figures with 97 goals. They won the league with 87 points after 38
games winning 27 games, tying 7 times and losing 4.They had a whole 30 goals ahead of second placed Gatundu United. However that did not reflect the true picture of a very competitive league.Every next of the first six teams that gained incorporation were separated by not more than four points.

Division One league
Green Berets had initial first-time jitters entering the league and dropped their first match,2-1, at Administration Police. They lived up to their name and picked up pace to down a lackluster Kibera Celtic at home, tied at Bidco but then tucked back into a series of loses at home and away. They turned around in the last two matches with an eye popping 5-1 win over Iron Strikers and 2-0 over visiting Coast United. Their most recent match was a 2-1 road loss at Magongo Rangers.

Berets have this far into the season won 4 matches, tied 3 and lost 6.They have scored 16 goals and conceded 13 for 15 points. They are at number 16 and have a chance to go 9th if they win their two matches at hand.

Playing at Home
Green Berets have not fared very well playing at home. They are placed 14 out of 20 teams in points won at home. Of the 6 matches played, they have gained only half of the 18 possible points. They scored 9 goals and conceded four (Sharks are first with 24 home points). However, they are among the teams that have allowed the fewest goals at home (at 2, Bidco has allowed the least number of goals at home).

Games Played
They lost two in a row in a hectic month of April when they won only 2 points in 6 games. They started with a loss at Moyas then sandwiched two consecutive losses (at Mahakama and Thola Glass) between 0-0 ties at home to NBI Stima and Bandari. They picked up pace slightly last week, running two wins in a row at home to Iron Strikers and a surprise road win at Coast United. Their last match was a 2-1 road loss at Magongo Rangers.

On the road, they have won six points out of a possible twenty one from seven matches, and are 13th in all teams log. Nairobi Stima are perched up top having won thirteen road points, but at 8,have played one more match.

Green Berets have won two road games and lost five (together with Iron Strikers), the most after Kibera Celtic (6).They have scored 7 goals and conceded 9.
Berets are 10th in the last 5 matches played with 7 points. They have scored 9 points and conceded 5 in two wins, two losses and one tie.
At home they have won only once in the last five games, tied three times and lost once. They have scored 7 goals and conceded four (At 11,6th placed Sparkie Youth,9th AP and 13th Admiral have scored the most goals on the road. League leaders K Sharks have scored 9 and conceded 2).
Berets have won only three points in the last five games playing on the road. Tied with Bandari, they are fifth lowest after Thola Glass,Magongo Rangers and AP (2) and Kibera Celtic (1).They have lost four matches and won one having scored 4 goals and conceded 6.

Head to Head Against
Both teams have played against Iron Strikers,Bandari,AP,Kibera Celtic,Moyas,NBI Stima,Mahakama,Thola Glass and Coast United. Berets got 10 points out of a possible 27 points playing the 9 teams. The Planets won 17 out of 27 points. Both teams beat Iron Strikers, the Planets on the road,Berets at home and Coast United,Planets at home,Berets on the road. Both teams tied Bidco and Stima .All the Beret ties were at home including a 0-0 tie to Bandari.Planets beat AP 2-0 while Berets lost 2-1 to them.Kibera Celtic also lost 2-0 to the Berets but turned the tables,2-1 against the Planets. On the road,Berets lost to Moyas and Mahakama;both teams lost to the Planets,Moyas at home and Mahakama on the road.Thola Glass tied the Planets 2-2 on the road before beating  Berets 1-0 the next weekend at home.

The Planets have won two matches in a row playing away from home. With renewed vigor, they hope to get their quest for promotion back on track after it was jolted by a few lackluster performances and events.A win at Berets would be a good starting point.
The Planets return the same lineup that won against Iron Strikers. The only inclusion is Kenya U20 midfielder Marvin Onyango on the bench for William Otieno.
